Book Description

AD79. Pompeii. A once vibrant cosmopolitan Roman city which was buried and her citizens lost in a cataclysmic event lasting two days. Rediscovered by accident over one and a half thousand years later she is now a popular tourist destination. Looking at the known facts surrounding these events the author seeks to bring to life once again the wonders and the final destruction of this now legendary city and to show how ultimately the lives of the peoples of this ancient civilisation parallels our own.

"brilliant account"

Ann Sloane has given us a brilliant account of the destruction of Pompeii, Herculaneum and other places near to Vesuvius. We are taken back to Roman Cities in the first century AD to a time when the New Testament was being written, and through the pages of this book you can walk through ancient streets, alive with people, noise and many different odours, some more exotic than others. Just like Sodom and Gomorrah of the Old Testament, you can appreciate something of the awful nature of destruction as it unfolded, and learn many powerful and searching lessons so relevant for life in the 21st century.'
